Jenny Smith , 1998
During her year, we were rebuilding our Kentucky Organization. Our first pageant in a decade was a wonderful experience and she was proud to represent Ky. Since that time, Jenny has become the Midwest Regional Director for "The “Mobility Project.”, an organization devoted to collecting, refurbishing and distributing used mobility equipment in other countries.
Jenny was injured while tumbling on the grass at the age of 16. She sustained a C6-7 spinal cord injury, which left her paralyzed from the chest down. She graduated from Christian Academy of Louisville the following year, then attended the University of Louisville where she completed degrees in Psychology (B.A.) and Counseling Psychology (M.Ed.). She enjoys tutoring English for immgrants and refugees, playing tennis, rowing, reading and just hanging out with friends.
Jenny has worked with The Mobility Project since 2001. She travels frequently to developing countries such as, Mexoco , Afghanistan , El Salvador and Costa Rica with Mobility Project teams and assists with the administrative aspects of the distributions, as well as teaching the recipients how to use their chairs. In the States, she coordinates the collection of mobility aids in her area, answers the 800 number, assists with administration, presents The Mobility Project to civic and church organizations, and generally keeps the organization before the public.
